Now that we are in the middle of tech weekend, all I can think about is how excited and nervous I am! Its hard to believe that the show goes up in a few days. We have all worked really hard to make this show the best it can be. That doesn’t mean that all parts of the process thrill us though. I think its safe to say that most of us absolutely detest tech week. Tech week is one of those things that is completely necessary while still being completely exhausting and tedious.

The way that tech works is that now is when we add in all the lights, costumes, and cool theater magic to make the piece work. Before this point, we were only working with each other as a cast and the director. We mimed things because we didn’t have props yet and the whole thing was kind of a stumble through. Once tech is done, we will have all the props, costumes, lights, sound, flies, and much more that all come together and make it into a show.

As it stands now though, we still have a lot of work to do. We are still playing with lights and sound. We don’t have our costumes yet and we are still trying to get a feel for how long this show will actually run. Without costumes we can’t run costume changes. That means that there could be some big stumbles once everything is finally put together. Because we are still playing with lights and sounds, our transitions are still a bit shaky and unreliable. There are still a lot of kinks to work out. I know that we can do it though. As opening night gets closer, there is this added sense of excited nerves and that is motivating us to put in the time and energy to make this good. It’s a little scary when Lisa says that we will have people in the house in a few days. Just means that we have to keep plugging along. We will get there and it will be fantastic when we finally do.
